We have been invited to join the Timmerman Traverse to hike the Cascades this summer with a team of 20+ leaders from the biotech and life sciences community to raise significant funds that benefit Life Science Cares (LSC), an organization mobilizing the biotech industry to give time, talent and treasure to vulnerable people in our communities.
When: Aug. 18-19, 2024
Our Goal: The goal of each climber is required to raise a minimum of $25,000, and together our goal is $50,000 (though we plan to raise even more).
Saul has been a passionate fundraiser and researcher in the biopharma space throughout his career. Last year he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with Timmerman Traverse and got hooked on climbing with a fundraising purpose. He is dedicating his climb to the memory of Laurie Halloran, a dear friend who was also a committed fundraiser/supporter of LSC. His current company, Q32 Bio, focused on discovering and developing novel autoimmune disease medicines, has donated significant time and money towards LSC.
Tracy is new to philanthropic climbing. Turning 60 this year, she was looking for a physical challenge and this was the "right climb at the right time". She supported Saul and his team when they climbed Kili and was inspired by Saul's commitment to training as well as people's willingness to give. She is also happy to be able to share this experience with Saul, her husband of 32 years! Tracy is the Founder of The Tortoise Institute, a company focused on bringing emotional intelligence learning to individuals, workplaces and communities.
Why Are We Doing This: It’s been extremely humbling to see how powerful LSC delivers on its commitments for short-term basics such as food and shelter along with programs that uplift people over the long-term such as science education and job training. This dedicated pledge to fight poverty and provide life changing opportunities to vulnerable people depends on private contributions to make a profound difference. We know we can make a difference in our communities.
